“Always have an attitude of gratitude.”

Sterling K Brown

Did you ever hear the saying ‘Gratitude will change your Attitude’?

At Hempful gratitude is a principle we embrace and practice regularly. Every day we are presented with opportunities. Opportunities to improve, grow and change. We are often meet with challenges and obstacles in our daily lives. Other days, life flows wonderfully well and we are invincible. Either way, we are extremely grateful for the gifts we have and the opportunities presented to strive for better. This month at Hempful we are sharing our gratitude and have put together a few pointers to help you live a grateful and abundant life too.

The one thing, on any day, that makes us believe we are living our best life, or not, is our thinking. Our perception. For example how do we view the glass with 50% liquid in it? Is the glass half full or is it half empty? If you’re the glass half empty kind of person, don’t worry, you have the power in you to change this. This is where the saying gratitude will change your attitude comes in. If you are the glass half full kind of person, I‘m sure your glass is overflowing

So how do we change our perception? How do we become more grateful?

  1. We choose to be……

I know! Really? The answer is yes, we choose to be. We make a conscience decision and take action on it. Everyone can benefit from practicing gratitude on a daily basis.

  1. Commitment……

Commit to having gratitude practices. If you are anything like me, you will have all the excuses in the world (and excuses being what they are) that you haven’t enough time. You don’t need much time. 5 minutes is a great starting point. In today’s society we get so caught up in life, we can somewhat neglect ourselves. This is a good time to start taking back some ‘mindful me time’.

  1. Start……

Pick a set time of day (or night) to sit down alone with pen and paper. I normally do this in the morning before my day begins as I feel it just puts me in a better mindset for the day. You can do it in the morning, before you go to bed or anytime really. Write down ‘I am grateful for….’ followed by a list of what you are grateful for. If may be difficult at first, but just sit with it. Something will come.

  1. Consistency is key……

Keep doing this on a daily basis. Practice makes perfect. Although we are striving for progress rather than perfection continuing to do these things daily, it makes being grateful easier. At the start you may find only 1 or 2 things on your list but after a few days, weeks and months the list will grow and you will have a lot more to write down. The reason this happens is because the more grateful we are the more we have to be grateful for.

  1. Practice present in the moment gratitude……

This is the other 23 hours and 55 minutes of the day outside your daily gratitude list. Feel those moments of gratitude as you go about your business. For example, on an evening walk, can you feel your heart beating in your chest?  The inhale of air into your lungs and exhale?  The movement in your legs, carrying the weight of your body. Pause and reflect on these wonderful things.

And don’t stop!

Gratitude does not only change your attitude. Research shows it to have many other benefits too.
